#166 – Does Where You Came From Define Where You Are Going?

Today I’m happy to welcome Travis Richey to The Alden Report. As an entrepreneur, advisor, and motivational speaker, Travis has experienced great success. More importantly, as we discuss in this episode, he has also experienced his share of failure. Travis spent the first half of his career in the finance world directing mergers & acquisitions globally for a hedge fund and by the age of 25 was directing a hedge fund with millions of dollars under management. Unfortunately, he found himself in trouble when, due to what he says was a regulatory oversight in the State of Arizona, he was charged with transactions of an unregistered securities dealer and sentenced to 2 years in Arizona Department of Corrections. Instead of running from his past, he choose to believe that one’s biography in not one’s destiny and that where you came from does not define where you are going. The 17,520 hours he spent in prison became the framework of his new mission in life. Armed with a degree in Finance and a PHD from the school of hard knocks, he dedicated his life to providing incarcerated and returned citizens a second chance at a successful life. Often referred to as the Tony Robbins of the prison world, Travis speaks the language of failure and perseverance to inmates nationwide bringing them hope and purpose. Travis has spoken inside 200+ jails, prisons and institutions worldwide and his programs have been used by hundreds of thousands of inmates and numerous departments of corrections to bring life skills, job training, and education to the justice impacted community. In providing content to over 125 prisons and 400,000 tablets behind prison walls, his company is now the largest content provider to the prison industry in North America.

Thank you so much to Travis for discussing his candid and uplifting journey on this week’s on The Alden Report.
